The Home Counties Area was originally part of the London and Overseas Area and comprised Hertforshire, Bedfordshire and parts of Essex and Middlesex.  Founder members included Sheila McQueen, Anita Seago and Dorothy Marriott.  Council meeting were originally held in London at Caxton Hall, but they have moved several times since then.

The first Area 'Flower Exhibition' was held at the Chenil Galleries, Chelsea in September 1961.  It was opened by Julia Clements and the Silver Challenge Cup was won by St Albans Flower Arrangement Group.  The Area hosted the National Competitions at Rochford, Essex in June 1986.  The Area also had the honour of doing the table arrangments for the Pearl Anniversary of NAFAS at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London.

The Area held its first Residential Weekend in July 1990 at Oaklands College, St Albans.  Home Counties has held many flower festivals including venues such as Haileybury College, Knebworth House and a 'Trilogy' when flower festivals were held at Woburn, Brentwood and Prittlewell.

Doreen Small a member of Home Counties Area was for many years organiser of the NAFAS Travel Club.
