The North Midlands Area of NAFAS was formed on 28th June 1962.  Forty seven years later we have over 5,200 members amongst our 78 clubs spread throughout Leicestershire, Rutland, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, East Staffordshire and South Yorkshire.

Our Founder President, Mrs Dorothy Cooke MBE, who is a National Life Vice President and Founder Associate of Honour, still enjoys attending our annual Area events.  We are privileged to have two other National Associates of Honour, Mrs Jean Hill MBE and Mrs Jenny Mellors DL.

Of our twenty past Area Chairmen, four went on to take positions working at National level and one sat on the first WAFA Committee in Bath.  Our present Area President Elect has also just joined the National Editorial Board.

We have a good representation of Judges, Demonstrators, Speakers and Teachers in our Area which includes 3 National Demonstrators and 3 National Teachers.

Our Teachers' Association, founded in 1984, flourishes with 50 teachers who hold Day Schools and Area workshops for our members.

The Executive Committee carry out the daily running of the Area, with the help of our Representatives' Committee, who organise training and education.

Members of the North Midlands Area are always keen to offer support decorating castles, stately homes, churches, cathedrals, etc and have won the Area many prestigious awards including RHS Chelsea and RHS Malvern, NAFAS National Show, Harrogate Show and not forgetting local shows held throughout our Area.
