The North Midlands Area of NAFAS was formed on 28 June 1962.  We now  have over 5,000 members amongst our 79 clubs (this includes one CFD Group and 2 Junior Clubs) spread throughout Leicestershire, Rutland, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, East Staffordshire and South Yorkshire.

Our Founder President, Mrs Dorothy Cooke MBE, who is a National Life Vice President and NAFAS Founder Associate of Honour, still enjoys attending our annual Area events. 

We are privileged in our Area to have 3 NAFAS Associates of Honour -
Mrs Jean Hill, MBE, Mrs Anne Bull, Mrs Carolyn Wise (who was recently appointed National Proof Reader for National Events), and NAFAS Past Chairman Associate of Honour, Mrs Jenny Mellors, DL.

Our Area is fortunate to have a good representation of Judges, Demonstrators, Speakers and Teachers which includes 3 National Demonstrators and 5 National Teachers.

In 1984 our Teachers' Association was founded, celebrating their 25th Anniversary in 2009.
They hold Day Schools for their membership of 50 Teachers who then bring that knowledge to our members at the Area Workshops which we hold throughout the year and Area.

The Executive Committee carries out the daily running of the Area, with the help of our Representatives' Committee, who organises trainings, tests and education.

Members of the North Midlands Area are always keen to offer support decorating castles, stately homes, churches, cathedrals, etc and have won the Area many prestigious awards including RHS Chelsea and RHS Malvern Gold, numerous NAFAS National Show awards, Harrogate Show Gold and not forgetting the many local shows held throughout our Area.
