5 Three Counties & South Wales

Description

What is the Three Counties and South Wales Area of NAFAS?

Three Counties and South Wales Area of NAFAS covers principally Worcestershire, Gloucstershire and Herefordshire and that area of South Wales up to Aberporth.  The Area was formed in 1959 and currently consists of 72 Clubs, with over 4,000 members.  It also is a registered charity and uses all surpluses to further its aims of education, promotion and improving the standards of flower arranging in the Area.

It is run by a Council consisting of a representative from every Club in the Area.  This Council meets four times per year, in Ross-on-Wye, and delegates the day-to-day running of the Area to an Executive Committee consisting of a Chairman, 1st Vice Chairman and 2nd Vice Chairman, each of whom serve for 3 years, also a Secretary, a Treasurer, the Chairman of the Area Judges, Demonstrators, Speakers and Education Committee (known as JDS&E) and the current President of the Area.  The Area also sends representations to the National Committees for JDS&E, Photography, Trading and Media, which enables a two way traffic for ideas and suggestions.

Annually within the Area an Area Day is held comprising a talk, demonstration and competitions, together with sales tables and a President's Day which raises funds for Areas' work.  Both these days enable members from all parts of our Area to renew and make new friendships.  The JDS&E Committee also run Refresher Days and training for Area Tests for Judges, Speakers and Demonstrators, and competitors.

The Area regularly co-ordinates Flower Festivals in Cathedrals and other suitable venues to which all Clubs are invied to participate.

A twice-yearly magazine - the Area News - is produced to give Club news, details of forthcoming events, competition schedules and winners, list of Area Officers, interesting articles, quizzes, etc and this is available to all members.
