With the fascination for flower arranging in post war years, the Hampshire Floral Decoration Society was formed in 1954, becoming the Flower Arrangement Association of Wessex in 1960 and finally the Wessex & Jersey Area of NAFAS in 1982. The Area Newsletter (1973), re-named ‘Window on Wessex’ after three issues, is now a substantial magazine containing essential Area and National information for its members. The first of two junior flower clubs were set up in 2000 in Jersey. Since its conception, the Area has undertaken numerous flower festivals and exhibitions including Winchester, Salisbury and Portsmouth Cathedrals, raising money for worthy causes and has been privileged to be the host Area for the NAFAS national flower arranging competitions and two National Assemblies, on the Isle of Wight and Jersey. From five enthusiastic groups the area now consists of 70 clubs and around 3000 members.
Wessex & Jersey Area of NAFAS clubs welcome visitors and new members. The Area includes Hampshire, South Wiltshire, a small part of east Dorset, the Isle of Wight, and Jersey.
Tickets for events organised by the Area are usually only available to members of clubs affiliated to NAFAS. For more details of events listed or tickets, please contact the Area Secretary.
