Godolphin School’s 300th Anniversary Service at Westminster Abbey

Godolphin School was founded by Elizabeth Godolphin in 1726 for girls in Wiltshire. She was married to a Cornish MP and was buried in the cloisters of Westminster Abbey. Notable former pupils include Jilly Cooper, Dorothy L Sayers, and Minette Walters. The school is now co-educational.

A special service was held today, Friday 25th September 2026, to commemorate the school’s 300th anniversary. The Abbey bells rung at about 1pm after the service.

NAFAS members from London and Overseas arranged a pair of pedestal designs at the High Altar, using the following flowers to match the school’s colours:

  • Dark red carnations
  • Red Chrysanthemums
  • Blue Eryngium
  • Blue Gentiana
  • Gold Eremurus
  • Gold Gerbera
  • Gold spray roses
