NAFAS Announces Changes to the Board of Trustees

The National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies today announces the extension of the Chairmans term and changes to its Board of Directors with two new Trustees from its clubs joining the Board.

Joining the Board are:
Jane Brothwood

Jane BROTHWOOD (left) is an experienced senior leader with both operational and non-executive roles.

Jane is currently a Lay Director at the Taxation Disciplinary Board and a lay panellist for the Teaching Regulation Agency, Professional Misconduct Hearings.

A Chartered Manager and qualified Programme Manager, Jane held a range of senior leadership roles at HMRC, with a track record of delivering successful change. She has held several non-executive roles including as Chair of Governor, Lay Public Interest Observer for Chartered Institute of Taxation Council, and Lay Member of Waterways Ombudsman Committee.

A keen gardener and a very amateur flower arranger, she is a member of Shrewsbury Flower Club.

Emma FLINT (right) is a practising programme analyst from a diverse career of big names, such as Bacardi, Panavision and Visit England.  She also holds a City & Guilds Distinction, Level 2 Diploma in Floristry, having found floral design and installations an equally challenging and rewarding escape from working behind a screen. Emma is a member of Broughton Flower Club.

Having heard about the plans for the NAFAS Renewal Programme from her local flower club, she was keen to make sure voices at club level were heard, and translated into meaningful requirements for any future policies, processes and systems. Emma accepted her place on the Board so she could play her part in making sure NAFAS was fit for purpose for the next generation.

She wants to embrace the importance of passing something on, and retaining our British cultural heritage, whether it’s learning how to make your great grandmother’s sherry trifle from scratch, or knowing what variety of roses are in your garden!

Continuing on the Board. In mid-August the Board asked the National Chairman, Nicky Wylie to serve an additional year as Chairman while NAFAS are in the middle of setting up a significant Renewal Programme.   Nicky accepted this offer and will now continue to serve as an elected member of the Board until October 2027.

Retiring from the Board. Ann Harding, an elected member of the Board, who very kindly stayed on an extra year via the Board extending her term last year, is standing down.

Appointment and Election to the Board. The Board has a continuous application process for appointments to the Board with appointments being made at various points over this year.  All appointments are made via an interview process followed by reference checks. With the above change sin the Board there is currently one position available for election to the Board in a vote that will take place by Voting members (e.g. Area Chairmen and the Board) by the end of September 2026.

Quote from National Chairman, Nicky Wylie
“I warmly welcome Emma and Jane to the Board. It is a time of Renewal for NAFAS and there is a real sense of enthusiasm and optimism for the future.  We are seeing this in the number of members putting themselves forward to join the Board be that through the elected or appointed process.  Both Emma and Jane bring a range of skills and experience that along with the existing Board members and the new member who will be elected shorty, will help us to set the strategic direction for the organisation for the coming decade.  These appointments were unanimously agreed by the Board after a thorough interview process. Welcome aboard.

I am also most grateful to colleagues for their support in my staying on an additional year as NAFAS National Chairman.  We are at the beginning of the three-year Renewal Programme and I share their view that continuity of Chairman at this time is very useful and necessary.

I also want to pay tribute to Ann Harding, not just for her time on the Board, but for her years of dedicated service at a club and Area level, and across our four disciplines.  She has truly made an exceptional impact on our organisation.  We owe her a debt of gratitude for all that she has done.”
